Approved for Release: Micatu Selected as Semi-Finalist in the New York State 76WEST Business Competition

Horseheads, NY, May 17, 2016 — Micatu, Inc. provider of next generation optical based sensors for the utility and wind turbine industry, announced last week they have been selected as one of 24 Semi-Finalists in the 76West Business Competition.

As an initiative of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, 76West is a NYSERDA-sponsored business competition focused on attracting startups to build clean energy businesses and create jobs in New York State’s Southern Tier Region.  Semifinalist teams from across the state, country, and globe have given pitches at Cornell University for a spot in the finals. A spot in the finals guarantees teams one of 6 prizes, from $1 million to $250,000, as well as incubator space, support services, and national recognition.

“Micatu is pleased to have been selected as one of the Semi-Finalists in the 76West Business Competition” stated Michael Oshetski, Chief Executive Officer of Micatu, Inc. “New York State and NYSERDA have already demonstrated that they believe in us and we want to show 76West that we believe in New York State and we will continue to invest in the Southern Tier ecosystem”.

Joining Micatu’s CEO in the presentation at Cornell University were Mike Jagielski – Micatu’s Chief Operating Officer. 

“Micatu has successfully graduated from IncubatorWorks (formally the Ceramics Corridor Innovation Center (CCIC) in Painted Post, NY and we are well positioned to introduce our all optical solution for the “smart grid” in the coming months”. With the help of NYSERDA and hopefully, additional 76West funding, we can create even more manufacturing jobs in the Southern Tier”, stated Mike Jagielski.

Kris Walker – Micatu’s Director of New Product Development stated that “the Micatu team is unique in its ability to embrace diversity in its culture. When we tell you it’s not exactly rocket science, don’t be fooled, it’s as close as it gets!  I see breakthroughs in new technology at an alarming rate”.
